  Losing weight and staying fit is not a once off event. It is an activity that is supposed to last a whole lifetime. It is unfortunate that a lot of people think it is a two-week, three-month, or one-year program that they do, and then get over with. I’m sorry to bust your bubble, but there’s a lot more to weight loss than that.

Jogging is a great way to lose weight, but as an obese person, it is not something you just jump into. Considering that your body and muscles are not used to it, you have to carefully ease your way into it gradually. A short walk each morning is a nice way to begin; then you can gradually get to moving faster, then jogging.

Fitness is not only for your fitness instructor to instruct; you should listen to a doctor too. The reason is that you could do damage to your body by overstretching muscles and tendons, or shedding too much fat. This certainly is detrimental.

Most obese people are not that way because they like to be. Many would love to do something about the situation, but they find that the options open to them are not very favorable. Having to give up the super burgers they love so well, take up repulsive exercise, undergo surgery, or even hypnotism- just doesn’t hold plenty water in the attraction arena. They would rather stay overweight. But this is lack of control as far as I’m concerned.

The fact that surgeries are now a lot safer than they were twenty - no fifteen years ago, has brought about an understandable rise in the number of people who undergo it annually. In addition, because it is not as expensive as it used to be, many plump people can afford to get something done about their weights, via surgery.

Weight loss can be caused by a reduction in your fat or lean mass. It may also result from illnesses like diabetes, or from the ingestion of certain medications. You must identify why this is happen to you, and then you must address it, or remain like that until something worse happens.

You must understand your own body and the way you react to internal and external agitations. This will help you prepare yourself to lose weight when you have to. Comparing yourself to others might be helpful in some way, but you must also realize that you are essentially different and your body systems do not have to work the same way.

Have you ever wondered why a lot of old folks exercise? To keep the calories down, that’s why. They realize, or have been told, that as they age, fat and other stuffs begin to pile up in their bodies that they need to burn up. The same thing applies for overweight persons. HOW AGING EFFECTS YOUR BODY

Before undertaking any senior exercise program it is important to understand the effects of aging. Most seniors can follow the obvious signs of aging. We watch as our hair grays (or disappears entirely) and as our skin wrinkles. But few people notice the almost imperceptible changes taking place within our bodies; changes so subtle that it’s possible to miss them completely until a major health crisis forces us to sit up and take notice.

YOUR HEART

As early as your thirties, your heart begins to slow down. You may lose as much as one beat per minute, per year, after the age of thirty. The amount of blood that your heart is able to pump also decreases. By the time you reach the age of 80, your heart can only pump about one third of the volume of blood that it did when you were thirty. This cardiovascular effect accounts for the fatigue and breathlessness that you may experience during your day to day activities or during senior exercises.

YOUR BLOOD VESSELS

As you age, your blood vessels begin to harden, your blood becomes thicker and harder for your heart to pump, your blood pressure increases, and the number of red blood cells in your blood declines. This means that the oxygen-rich blood that you enjoyed in your younger years becomes a thing of the past and that senior exercises are important in counteracting this effect.

YOUR WEIGHT

Studies show that most Americans begin to put on weight during middle age. Both men and women put on about five extra pounds a year, but men generally gain more weight in fat than do women because, in addition to gaining weight, they are also losing muscle mass. This weight gain is often a forerunner of more serious conditions such as diabetes and high LDL (bad) cholesterol. This is an important reason for undertaking a senior fitness program.

YOUR BONES AND MUSCLES

Due to a normal reduction in hormones, some muscle mass is lost as we age, while the rest of our muscle mass begins to change. Muscles and ligaments begin to stiffen and tighten. The average American male may lose as much as 50% of his muscle mass during middle age. The bones begin to lose calcium and become brittle. The loss of muscle mass leads to weakness and the changes in our bones can lead to a higher risk of fractures. This can be successfully reversed by

undertaking senior exercises.

YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM

Changes in the nervous system cause our reflexes to slow down and our movements to become less coordinated. We average fewer hours of sleep and may experience periodic lapses in memory. Seniors find that they may succumb to feelings of sadness and depression. Again all these effects can be countered by undertaking senior exercises.

CAN EXERCISE REVERSE THE EFFECTS OF AGING?

There is no way to completely stop the aging process. However, scientists have discovered that we can slow down the effects of aging and sometimes even reverse them just a bit.

Recent research has revealed that many of the changes in our bodies previously thought to have been the cause of aging are actually due to disuse. This confirmation of the “use it or lose it” philosophy means that most of us have unwittingly contributed to our own decreased health status by reducing our activity level as we age when we should instead be paying careful attention to making sure that our bodies are maintaining an appropriate level of senior fitness.

It’s never too late to begin a program of senior health and fitness. The fact that you are reading this means that you are interested in learning more about senior exercises and how to remain as healthy as possible during your senior years. In a few short weeks, you can lose fat, increase your heart’s ability to pump blood and carry oxygen, and lower your blood pressure and cholesterol level.

No, you can’t stop the hands of time, but you can keep your body in peak physical condition to make the most of what life has to offer by undertaking a program of senior exercises.
